Guide to remove pdf metadata
Understand the metadata fields that are touched
Standard metadata can store title, author, subject, and keywords. This tool displays a number of common fields to check, then leaves the copy title, author, subject, and keywords blank. The creator and application fields are set to “Lembar PDF (Local)”, not left blank. Therefore, this tool changes some of the document information and does not remove all traces of the file's origin.
Creation date, XMP metadata, comments, embedded attachments, names in page content, and information on images may remain. The check table does not prove that all files are free of personal data. If you need to remove sensitive information, review the document structure with the appropriate tools and perform a manual inspection of the pages and attachments.
Check the metadata and the contents of the page afterward
Before processing, review the displayed columns for detected default values. After downloading, open the document properties in another PDF reader to make sure the basic changes are saved. Don't assume a missing author name from a table means personal information has been removed from the entire file.
For documents that will be published or shared outside the organization, also check comments, attachments, annotations, images, and visible text. Keep sources as backups, especially if you need to retain date or author information for internal archives. Metadata cleansing is not a substitute for a privacy policy or official document sanitation process.
Additional limits and checks
Use the preview table to see the standard fields the tool can view, not as a comprehensive sanitation certificate. Open the resulting properties in another PDF application and manually review the page contents. If your organization has data or archive deletion procedures, follow those procedures before sharing documents.
For information on file processing, see privacy policy. Limits on the tool's workspace apply if they are stricter than the general limits.
